For the first time outside of Germany, DHI Water & Environment, Inc. will be holding our triennial, FEFLOW International User Group Conference in scenic Golden, Colorado USA. Join us for four days of presentations and discussions from FEFLOW users and renowned experts alike. Together, we’ll explore the great opportunities that digitization and the Internet of Things (IoT) provide to our industry and how to best tackle the new demands on our daily work, tools, and deliverables. The event begins with two days of presentations by FEFLOW users, DHI experts, and renowned keynote speakers followed by an additional two days of FEFLOW training and discussion.

Keynote Speakers


Dr. John Doherty, PhD

Watermark Numerical Computing 


Dr. John Doherty is the developer of PEST, a the industry standard software package for parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis of complex environmental and other computer models. Dr. Doherty has worked for over 35 years in the water industry and now directs his own company, Watermark Numerical Computing, which undertakes software development and advanced modelling for mining, environmental, agricultural, water supply, remediation and geothermal applications. He also works as an adjunct professor with the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training.


Dr. Tissa Illangasekare, PhD
Colorado School of Mines


Dr. Illangasekare is the AMAX Distinguished Chair and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.  He is also the founding director of the Center for Experimental Study of Subsurface Environmental Processes (CESEP), a university / industry / national laboratory collaborative center.  His research experience and expertise are in mathematical and numerical modeling of flow and transport in porous and fractured media, saturated and unsaturated zone processes, multi-phase flow, carbon storage, modeling of land-atmospheric interaction, remediation of contaminated sites, and application of sensor technologies for environmental and hazard monitoring.   

Martina Oval

Dr. Martina aus der Beek, PhD


Dr. Martina aus der Beek’s main scientific contributions focused on global modeling of climate and the environment and integrated assessments of environmental and socio-economic scenarios including adaptation and mitigation strategies and climate resilience. At the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, she researched land surface – atmosphere interactions and decadal climate predictions. Dr. aus der Beek is now working in the private sector as deputy head of the hydro and environmental geology group at K+S and leader of the numerical modeling competence center. 

Paul Oval

Mr. Paul J. Martin, PE
Aqua Insight Inc. 


Mr. Paul Martin has over 25 years of experience in the characterization and assessment of hydrogeologic systems to understand groundwater flow and contaminant transport. Having successfully completed several hundred hydrogeologic investigations, he has an enormous breadth of knowledge in the practical application of numerical modeling tools. His consulting modeling work is extensive including water resources, surface and groundwater hydraulics and hydrology, urban development, environmental site assessments, contaminant remediation, mining water supply and waste management, municipal landfills, and agricultural projects.
