Creating a framework for integrated catchment modelling
Using MIKE SHE
An instructor-led online course
Discover how to execute integrated catchment modelling projects and support decision-making using MIKE SHE and MIKE HYDRO River.
Discover how to execute integrated catchment modelling projects and support decision-making using MIKE SHE and MIKE HYDRO River.
This course is right for you if:
✔️ You are an engineer, hydrologist or hydrogeologist working with water planning, water management or water infrastructure
✔️ You are interested in applying state-of-the-art tools to support holistic water-related decisions
✔️ You are curious to learn how MIKE SHE can help you make better decisions
✔️ You are prepared to complete a five-module instructor-led online course, supplemented by a one-hour introduction to the structure and methodology of the course, over six weeks
✔️ Your schedule allows you to allocate two hours to complete assignments for each module
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:
✔️ Set up integrated hydrological models using MIKE SHE
✔️ Run simulations across a variety of integrated catchment modelling projects
✔️ Review results across a variety of integrated catchment modelling projects performance
This course includes five modules conducted via online live sessions by our qualified trainer. You will learn through a combination of instructor-led lectures, demonstration videos and quizzes, hands-on exercises and reading materials.
Throughout the course, you will have ample time to discuss tips & tricks, best practices and examples with your instructor and fellow participants.
A major part of the online sessions is allocated to group work, which is based on home assignments set by your trainer. For maximum benefits, you are strongly advised to allocate a minimum of two hours of self-study for each of the five modules. There will be no homework for the one-hour online introduction to the structure and methodology of the course.
This online course is divided into five 2-hour training sessions. Module 1 also includes a 1-hour introductory session.
Module 1 | Integrated hydrology and hydrological modelling using MIKE SHE
Topics: Integrated hydrology, overview of approach, presentation of MIKE SHE and associated tools, learning how to build a model, exercise in setting up a flow model
Module 2 | MIKE SHE flow modules
Topics: Presentation of MIKE SHE modules, concepts, methods and input parameters, learning how to set up model scenarios, exercise in assessing the impacts of groundwater abstraction
Module 3 | Setting up a MIKE HYDRO River model and coupling with MIKE SHE
Topics: MIKE Hydro River, recommendations for coupling with MIKE SHE, working with structures, representation of floodplains, tips and tricks for stabilising models, exercise
Module 4 | Model calibration and sensitivity analysis
Topics: Definition of calibration, model calibration approaches, common difficulties, presentation of Autocal, simple examples and exercises using Auotcal
Module 5 | Natural catchment management using MIKE SHE
Topics: Natural catchment management approaches for managing flood risk and drought, managing climate change, common measures, benefit of integrated modelling, presentations of real-life examples, exercise in running scenarios
